The 12 Steps of NA

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a nonprofit fellowship for recovering drug addicts. NA outlines a 12-step program to help members achieve and maintain abstinence from drug use. The 12 steps are:

  1. Admit powerlessness over addiction and inability to self-manage life.
  2. Believe in a Power greater than oneself that can restore sanity.
  3. Make decision to turn will and life over to God’s care.
  4. Searchingly and fearlessly conduct moral self-inventory.
  5. Admit to God, self, and another the wrongs found in that inventory.
  6. Become willing for those defects to be removed.
  7. Humbly ask God to remove shortcomings.
  8. Make list of all persons harmed and become willing to make amends.
  9. Make direct amends to such people where possible, except when to do so would injure self or others.
  10. Continue personal inventory and promptly admit when wrong.
  11. Seek through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God as we understand God, praying only for knowledge of God’s will and the power to carry that out.
  12. Carry message to other addicts who still suffer and practice these principles in all affairs.

The 12 steps of NA aim to motivate members to make positive life changes by taking responsibility for their actions, making amends, and helping others in recovery. The program provides support for recovering addicts across New Mexico seeking abstinence.
