What is NA?

The 12 Steps of NA
- We admitted we were powerless over our addiction—that our lives had become unmanageable. Recognizing that addiction controls your life is the first crucial step toward recovery.
- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. This step invites members to have hope in recovery through a spiritual awakening, not necessarily religious.
- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. Members commit to relying on a higher power for guidance in their recovery journey.
- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Personal reflection helps members identify behaviors and patterns that contributed to addiction.
- Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Owning past mistakes fosters accountability and healing.
- Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Members express willingness to change their harmful behaviors.
- Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. This step emphasizes humility and acceptance in the process of change.
- Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. Preparing to repair relationships damaged by addiction is key to restoring trust.
- Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Accountability extends to active efforts to heal past wounds.
- Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. Ongoing self-evaluation helps maintain sobriety and integrity.
- Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. This step advances spiritual growth as a foundation for recovery.
- Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs. Members commit to helping others and living by the program’s principles daily.
