About Webrings

What is a Webring?

A Webring is a group of sites linked together usually around a specific topic. The purpose is to give surfers access to information about the topic that the Webring is organized around. For Example: A Webring could be organized around Little League. Some websites could belong to the various leagues and other websites could be on information about Little League, like the History of Little League, How to Calculate Batting Averages, League Standings, etc. The thing to realize is that a Webring is not one website but many linked together around a specific topic or issue.

On the internet you can find webrings on just about anything, including website design (i.e. annimation, Paint Shop Pro), businesses (i.e. home-based, collectables, women), science (i.e. astronomy, reptiles, birds), computers (i.e. Windows, Mac, Dell, HP, C programming) and hobbies (i.e. horses, pets, cats, dogs, ham radio, knitting, beading, anime). Websites join webrings because it is one way to be recognized and to get traffic to your website.

How to Use a Webring

Each member website when they join the webring is given a number which creates an order to the webring. A navagation panel is placed on each members website, usually the home page when the entire website is on the topic. But sometimes only a page or portion of a website is based on the webring’s topic. In these instances usually the navagation panel would be placed on that page or the title page if it is a section so the visitor would not have to look through the entire website. One page members can also make a webring more interesting because you are likely to find things that you would never see in a web search.

Navigation

The navagation panel has several choices. You can jump from website to website using the Next website button or Previous website. Or you can be more creative and select the option to jump ahead to the Next 5th website, jump back to the Previous 5th, go to a Random website or List all the websites and make a selection from there.

Surfing Webrings

The basic idea is to jump from website to website and surf the ring. Since the ring is based on an topic that you are interested in it is very likely you will find some interesting websites that you did not know about and will want to come back to visit.

NAMA’s Webrings

NAMA has two webrings; one is private and one is public.

Ring #

Ring 1
Ring 2

Name

NAMA Affiliate & Chapter Webring
NAMA Methadone Webring

Type

Private
Public

NAMA is in the process of setting up these two webrings. Currently NAMA’s Affiliate & Chapter Webring is being set up and is available for you to visit websites. However the NAMA Methadone Webring is still being set up and will be available in early September 2002.

The NAMA Methadone Webring is public and will include the top methadone websites on the internet. Because the webring is public essentailly anyone with a methadone website can ask to join. However, NAMA has set up strict criteria for a website to be eligible. The decision to create criteria was made because NAMA has a responsibility to do our best to insure that the member websites are based on scientific material and have the same standards as NAMA. Therefore, being a member of this webring will essentially be a privledge.

Only NAMA affiliates and chapters can join the NAMA Affiliate & Chapter Webring. The idea of webring came about because we wanted to link all the NAMA websites together. This webring includes all the NAMA affiliates and chapters that have a website, message board or forum.

How Can I Apply to NAMA’s Methadone Webring?

Right now the public webring is not available, however you can visit the NAMA Affiliate and Chapter Webring that is in the process of being built. We will announce when the public webring is available so check back.
