I am currently prescribed something called Keppra (levetiracetam) for my epilepsy. I have tried about 6 other meds before I finally got settled on this one, and all of the others that I tried had unbearable side effects for me.

My problem now is that my neurologist wants to increase my dose of Keppra again, and last time they did this it had an affect on the way my methadone dose holds me. It made it so that my dose is barely holding me, and I know a further increase is likely to mean that my dose won't last for 24 hours at all.

In the BNF, which is the primary point of reference for medications in the UK, it doesn't say that Keppra is an enzyme inducer/inhibitor, such as other epilepsy meds like valproic acid are. However, my clinic Dr said that it may be an enzyme inducer/inhibitor, it's just that as Keppra is one of the newer epilepsy meds that it might not have been prescribed to enough people also on methadone for this to be flagged up as an issue.

Does anyone have experience of Keppra and methadone? Or are you in MMT and also taking seizure meds, if so, which ones, and do they have side effects for you, and did they affect your dose at all.

I don't ideally want to keep having to increase my methadone dose every time I require a dose increase of the Keppra.

Thank you!! :)
