Post subject:  Prison on Methadone

Going to prison in Washington State I am on methadone and have been continuously since 1976. I am worried because of my age (62), my health issues (hypertension) and the length of time being on methadone (40+ years). My dose now is 60mg/day. I have been on a higher dose(110mg/day) at times, but with my age and the prison time in my future I have been tapering down. I called the prison nurse last week and was told they will dispense methadone there at WCC in Shelton, WA. if I have a primary care provider confirm I have been on methadone, and currently have prescription in treatment clinic. Needles to say I was surprised to hear this, and wonder if that nurse understood I am on methadone. I will be talking again to the prison nurse this week. I am facing a 12 to 20 month sentence. I will be convicted, there is no question about that my court date is in 6 months. My question is, has anyone out there heard of the state prison dispensing methadone to new inmates that already have been on methadone and will be on methadone when coming in?
