Does anyone know what it means to be diagnosed with a fatty liver, and if so, what can one do about it?

Are there diet changes or supplements that can help?

I found out today that there are 2 types of fatty liver, alcohol related, and non alcohol related. As we know this is not alcohol related, apparently you can make things better by losing weight and eating less fat. We're also going to try a Milk Thistle supplement, so if anyone has any experience of that I would love to hear it!

I've known some folks who would take Milk Thistle that had Hepatitis C and had some positive results (NOTE: If you have HepC talk to your doctor before taking ANY supplements or over the counter medications...).... but that's the only folks I've known of to really use it. It's also one of the ingredients in Nutridone, a supplement for MMT patients. But that's all I really know.

I've added milk thistle to my vitadone supplements because it's the lacking supplement that nutradone has in it and vitadone doesn't. I've read that it helps some lover issues of alcohol related inflammation in the liver and also helps with hep-c. It mimics estrogen and To be honest I have no idea what that means. Most of everything I read about what I take comes fromWebMD. Few other benefits but there's not enough data out there to say it helps at All. Like most supplements, they are not aproved by the FDA and you need to contact yr health care provider and see if this is right for you.
HAVE A GOOD DAY ALL.

I think we might try it anyway, can't hurt!! Mr Sapphire has got a 'fatty liver', and it's a non alcohol related one, so what the Dr told him was that his liver stores fat sort of the same as the rest of the body when you put on weight.
He's got to have a load of blood tests now, which is going to be a nightmare because he is practically impossible to get blood from. Last time they even tried his neck and couldn't. :(

We have started the Milk Thistle today, so hopefully it's going to help. His Dr has also said that a diet lower in fat will help. Although that is somewhat of a problem, as he's in recovery from drug AND alcohol use, and he's just quit smoking, it's like food is the only 'nice' thing left, and as a result he's doing what I used to do and comfort eating.

He's very busy with work, or I'd get him to exercise with me. I think I'm going to have to get him to make time to do it as I don't want him ending up with problems like clogged arteries later on!

He went for a blood test for his cholesterol levels, thyroid function, diabetes screen and liver function and they could not get any blood today, just about a couple of drops, nowhere near enough to do any testing on. So they have referred him to a different team who are specialists at getting blood from people hard to get, where they will try again, and if that doesn't work, they'll have to take arterial blood, which is quite painful!
